FOUR MEDITATIONS is a collaboration between Mishal Mazin and Imaad Majeed, carried over five sessions across January to April, 2025. Inspired by the improvisatory spirit of Sufi qawwali, the work draws on loops of tabla and tanpura from a Radel, Casiotone MT-70 keyboard raga and maqam explorations, and spontaneous recitations, ghazal and verse. Across four tracks, love, delusions, nonduality, and gratitude to the divine are invoked in a contemplative form. Rather than ecstasy, these meditations lean toward intimacy, reflection, and becoming whole.

The word jugalbandi means “entwined twins.” In Hindustani music, it describes a duet where two voices or instruments are woven together, equal and inseparable. JUGALBANDITS is our own reimagining; entwined, but with a bandit spirit; borrowing, improvising, repurposing. These four meditations are born from dialogue: between voice and instrument, raga and maqam, tradition and experiment, devotion and play.
